88 acres
623 North Alpine Road, Rockford
History:
Aldeen Park was named for Reuben A. Aldeen, President of Amerock Corporation and
the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners at the time of the park
purchase.
On December 17, 1965, Mr. Aldeen donated $47,500 to the Rockford Park
District to purchase the 88-acre property. The land was formerly called the
Memorial Forest Preserve and was owned by the Winnebago County Forest Preserve
District.
The park's nature trails for hikers of all ages opened May 1, 1969. The
self-guided trails range from one quarter of a mile to a mile and a quarter
long. The first loop of the main trail is flat, and is suitable for senior
citizens, strollers, and is wheelchair accessible. The earthen dam is a great
place for a hard workout.
